Issue 19  August 2008

Our Community Newsletter

This newsletter will be a short one. Hopefully it finds you and your business doing well.

The Dog days of Summer.
1 : the period between early July and early September when the hot sultry weather of summer usually occurs in the northern hemisphere.
2 : a period of stagnation or inactivity.

Hopefully your customers are not effected by the dog days of Summer and continue to drop in. Heat and humidity has some effect on shoppers getting out. Sometimes we have to get creative in drawing customers to our businesses. If you have some summer campaigns that you feel work, pass them on to us.

Thanks,

Jim
webmaster.

Online Community issues.

Still working on Twin City Online. Should be complete by end of August.

September will be our next Full color Full page ad in the Reminder. If you'd like to participate, please contact us. We will try to contact each business personally, but if we miss you please email us. We are not making as many trips, do to the cost of gas.  The ad has done well in the past and its size and color does draw attention to the business size ads placed by those listed on our websites.

If you have a Banner/Logo Listing with us you receive one free narrow column ad on our home pages in the right column per each  six month listing period. Email or call us about details. Ad lasts for at least 30days.

We are always open to suggestions and would love to hear from you. Just email us at webmaster@gunlakeonline.com.

OLCNOW Shopping Guide.

Since the shopping guide is part of the campaign of the Quarterly full page ad in the reminder, here is an update:

Most of those who used the newspaper ad have not followed up and added content to their ads on the Shoppers Guide. Remember you get these ads free when you place an ad with us in the newspaper and can change it each month. All you need to do is send us content or create the ad yourself. Not sure what to do, contact us and we will be glad to stop by and help you create your ad.

The Future:  We are studying the feasibility of combining the shopping guide ad with your listing on the community websites. Maybe combining the shoppers guide with the community listings. Still working on it.

Have some suggestions, feel free to send me an email with your idea.

Saving Money:

We need money saving tips from all of you. Not only will you be passing on information to our readers and fellow businesses, but you receive recognition with your business name and link to your listing. This provides name recognition and good will to those who read our home pages.

Help us help others and get some name recognition on our home pages. Every little bit helps. Send us your tips to jim@boxwebs.com

The importance of shopping local:

courtesy of Wayland Chamber of Commerce
  • Helps community businesses to survive & thrive
  • Helps other local businesses
  • Creates diversity & helps community maintain its unique appeal
  • Increases overall business and attracts new business
  • Environmentally friendly: creates less traffic, pollution, saves money on gas
  • Far more of dollars spent locally are reinvested in that community

Suggestions

Feel free to suggest something for the newsletter, community websites, or the Shopping Guide.

Notable Dates to Keep in Mind.

Whether or not, you use our Shopping Guide or ads on our community websites here are some notable dates coming up. Plan your ads to reflect these dates. Design or have some one design your ads for us or for the newspapers in plenty of time.

August is usually vacation time. Think about sales or promotions for the stay at home vacationers. I think there will be a lot more this year with the gas sky high
